Estimate your BAC

Enter your details and drinks to see an approximate blood alcohol concentration. Results are only estimates and must not be used to decide if you can drive.

Use an approximate value if you are not sure. The estimate is sensitive to body weight.

This helps us compare your estimated BAC with commonly cited legal limits in your selected region.

Drink Driving Law in Algeria

Algeria's traffic laws (Code de la route) are very strict concerning alcohol.

Legal Limit:

  • 0.20 g/L (0.02% BAC): This is a very low limit, much lower than in Europe or the US.
  • Practically, this means zero tolerance. A single standard drink will usually push a driver over this limit.

Testing: Gendarmerie and Police use breathalyzers (alcotest) and blood tests at checkpoints.

Penalties & Risks

Severe Penalties: Driving under the influence (L'état d'ivresse) is punishable by:

  • Imprisonment: 2 months to 2 years.
  • Fines: 50,000 to 100,000 DZD.
  • Licence Withdrawal: Immediate suspension of the driving licence.

Safety: Road safety is a major priority in Algeria. Drunk driving is viewed very negatively and prosecuted strictly.

Advice: Never drive after drinking. The legal threshold is too low to risk "guessing" your level.
